چکیده

During last few years the use of Terrestrial Laser Scanner has increased notably in different application fields, like architecture, geology and geodesy. The paper focuses in the use of TLS data for deformation measurement and monitoring purposes which concerns both engineering geology and geodesy. The paper presents a new approach for deformation measurement which fully takes advantage of the TLS data characteristics. The procedure is based on the point cloud matching algorithm Least Square 3D Surface Matching proposed by Gruen and Akca (ISPRS Journal, 2005, 59, 151-174). The proposed approach takes advantage of both surface and curve matching to improve the co-registration quality and it exploits the high density of TLS point clouds, which counterbalances the relatively poor precision of the single TLS points. The work describes the proposed deformation measurement procedure, and discusses in particular some results of the research made at the Institute of Geomatics: the preliminary results obtained with curve matching.

Registration of Terrestrial Laser Scanner Data Using Imagery

Building 3D models using terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data is currently an active area of research, especially in the fields of heritage recording and site documentation. Multiple TLS scans are often required to generate an occlusion-free 3D model in situations where the object to be recorded has a complex geometry. The first task associated with building 3D models from laser scanner data in...

Matching Sparse Sets of Cardiac Image Cross-Sections Using Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mapping Algorithm

Cardiac disease is often associated with remodeling. Ventricular shape and function is influenced by this remodeling. Assessing left ventricular shape and motion at the population level requires establishing anatomical correspondence using registration based techniques. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides detailed quantitative data about cardiac function and geometry. Cardiac MRI ...

Detection of millimetric deformation using a terrestrial laser scanner: experiment and application to a rockfall event

Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is one of the most promising surveying techniques for rockslope characterization and monitoring. Landslide and rockfall movements can be detected by means of comparison of sequential scans. One of the most pressing challenges of natural hazards is combined temporal and spatial prediction of rockfall. An outdoor experiment was performed to ascertain whether the T...

Analytical Matching of Optimal Damping Characteristics Curve for Vehicle Passive Suspensions

To facilitate the damping matching of dampers for vehicle passive suspensions, this paper proposes an analytical matching method of the optimal piecewise linear damping characteristics curve. Based on the vehicle vibration model, taking the suspension dynamic deflection as the constraint, by the vibration acceleration and the wheel dynamic load, an objective function about the relative damping ...

The Integration of TLS and Continuous GPS to Study Landslide Deformation: A Case Study in Puerto Rico

Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) andGlobal Positioning System (GPS) technologies provide comprehensive information on ground surface deformation in both spatial and temporal domains. These two data sets are critical inputs for geometric and kinematic modeling of landslides. This paper demonstrates an integrated approach in the application of TLS and continuous GPS (CGPS) data sets to the study ...
